Create a Slidedeck

It’s now easier than ever to create custom WordPress sliders using images, video, text, and HTML with our slide-by-slide editor. Beautiful lenses allow you to transform the look and feel of your SlideDeck in an instant.

GO to SlideDeck3 > Manage > New Slide > Create SlideDeck

Text Slide Type

The Custom Content Text Slide Type is one of 4 Custom Content Slide Types to choose from. This slide type is meant for text only content, and is great for large amounts of copy or quotes. Choose a layout, add your content and you are good to go. By far the most straight forward Custom Content Slide Type we have.

Configuration Options:

Choose Layout

You have 3 options to choose from for the layout of the text slide type: Basic, Multi-column and Block Quote. Basic is a pretty standard layout, title above text and text full width of the slide. Multi-column uses CSS columns to split the copy into 2 columns below the title, this works great in modern browsers that support this feature. Block quote formats the slide into a blockquote format, a large pronounced title and content that is centered and aligned to the middle vertically in the slide.

Slide Link

Add a URL to the slide, the title by default gets linked, which you can toggle to link the whole slide with in the deck Options.

Title

Set the title of the slide/content

Copy

Text area with WYSIWYG editor to add and edit your text based content.

Available In:

SlideDeck 3 Professional and SlideDeck 3 Developer

HTML Slide Type

The Custom Content HTML Slide Type is one of 4 Custom Content Slide Types to choose from. This slide type is meant for custom HTML written by the user. In most cases the Custom Content HTML Slide Type can handle shortcodes from other plugins, but this greatly depends on the method in which they have made those available. This slide type is best used in tandem with a custom Lens, this way you can take full advantage of custom styling on a lens level instead of relying on theme style inheritance, which is not accessible in the admin preview.

Configuration Options:

Title

Specify a title for your slide. This title will only be viewable when used with a lens like Classic. The title is not inserted into the Slide content.

Insert HTML

Text area for your to insert your HTML. We use CodeMirror to enable syntax highlighting and formatting to help ease the insertion and editing of HTML content.

Video Slide Type

Description:

The slide type allows you to paste a URL from Vimeo, YouTube, or Dailymotion and then it extracts the metadata and allows you to edit the extracted info. The information is then immediately filled in the text areas below the video URL/Chooser and can be edited.

When the “Update” button is pressed, the video info and thumbnail should be fetched and filled automatically.

Choose Text Type

You have 3 options to choose from for the layout of the text slide type: Caption, Body Text and None. These options are quite self explanatory, but may change slightly depending on the lens being used, and more importantly, the size of the deck in question.

Slide Link

Add a URL to the slide, the title by default gets linked, which you can toggle to link the whole slide with in the deck Options.

Lens - Titles

Overview:

The Titles lens was inspired by the custom SlideDeck lens used on the digital-telepathy blog (creators of SlideDeck 2). This lens is a gorgeous display for your latest blog posts or other dynamic content sources with striking imagery. Don’t have great imagery in your content source? No worries, the Titles lens will fall back gracefully framing your content’s title, time and author information.

Please note that due to its specialized, unique layout this lens does not work with Custom Content SlideDecks. There is not an option for excerpt display with this lens as the focus is on the imagery and the title, so you will see excerpt related options removed from the Content Options Panel.

Content Options:

All excerpt options will be removed from this options panel as this lens does not have an area for excerpt content.

Navigation Options:

Navigation Type:

Lens - Tool Kit

Overview:

The Tool Lens is our “Swiss Army Knife” style lens. The goal was to create a lens that looks good on any site, and can fit most everyone’s needs. Tool Kit handles Images, Videos, Text Only, and Custom HTML. It’s supported by all of the sources and the custom sources too.

Appearance Options:

Text Color Variation

Allows you to set a color variation independent of the  main Lens Variation option ***(Dynamic Source only)***.

Navigation Options:

Navigation Position

(Top / Bottom / Left / Right)
Tool Kit offers a relatively unique feature of being able to place the navigation thumbnails or dots at any edge of the deck. Keep in mind that this option may overpower other options. For example, if your navigation is Inside Slide Area and at the left, it will push your Caption Position to the right when selected. It’s also important to note that when the Navigation Position is set to Left or Right, the deck becomes a vertical deck.

Navigation Type

You can use this to switch between dots, thumbnails, or none.

Navigation Style

Tool Kit offers the ability to have your navigation dots or thumbnails either: Hanging outside the deck, In its own bar, or Inside the slide area. As noted above, the Inside slide area option may influence the Caption Position option.

Arrow Style

Adjusts which of several built-in arrow styles is used for the deck. This affects the main navigation arrows only.

Thumbnail Arrow Style

This controls the arrows that are used to paginate the thumbnail navigation. There are only two styles, but we think they fit most needs.

Lens- O-Town

Overview:

O-Town was inspired by a boy-band… or one of our employees. Either way it’s the most popular lens we’ve created that is vertical. O-Town brings a few nice things to the table. It divides the content vertically, but not an even 50% split like other lenses. Also, there’s a subtle difference in the way that the image is cropped. It supports all of the content types and has full support for custom slides.

Snake is a progress bar that Snakes around the circumference of the current slide. This is an eye-catching indicator that it unique to this lens.

Lens Management

The Lens Management page is where you will find an overview of your installed Lenses and their capabilities and upload new Lenses. With the Developer license, this is also where you can create new custom Lenses, clone existing ones, and edit and delete your custom Lenses.

Lens Cards:

Each Lens is represented by a card on this page that shows a thumbnail, the Lens Title, the Lens author, available content source chiclets, and possible variations. With the Developer license, there is a link under each card to copy the Lens as a custom Lens for editing.

lens_mgmt1

On your custom Lenses, the card also contains links to edit and delete the Lens.

lens_mgmt2

### Adding New Lenses:
Depending on your license, you will have the option to add more Lenses by uploading .zip packages or creating new Lenses.

lens_mgmt3

Uploading Lenses

With all licenses, you have the option to upload new Lenses. Click the Upload Lens button, locate the .zip Lens package, and click “Install Now.” The new Lens will now be available for use.

Creating New Lenses

With the Developer license, you have the option to create custom Lenses by copying the existing ones. This can be accomplished by either clicking on the Copy link under the Lens Card you would like to copy or clicking the Create New button. On the resulting page, you’ll be asked to enter your Lens name and Lens slug. The slug must be all lowercase and not contain any spaces; it is used as the identifier for your Lens throughout the Lens files. After you create your Lens, it will appear on its own Lens Card and be available to edit, delete, and, most importantly, use on your SlideDecks.

Fun Fact:

The Create New button clones the Proto Lens which is the most basic Lens with the default options so you can hit the ground running.

Advanced Options Page

Description:

The Advanced Options page is where you will find configuration options to improve the performance of SlideDeck depending on your server’s configuration, troubleshoot settings and reference existing API links. At the very least, you will be visiting this page once when you first install a paid version of SlideDeck 2 to input your license key; after that though you probably won’t need to come back here unless we ask you to in a support ticket.

advancopt

Advanced Options:

Your SlideDeck License Key

When you first install a paid version of SlideDeck 2, you’ll be prompted to input your license key. This license key will give you access to the available add-ons you have purchased and allow you to easily upgrade whenever a new release is available. Your license key will be verified when you click the Verify button next to the field and your license key’s Valid until date will be displayed.

Please Note: Some users’ server configurations unfortunately do not allow for server-side cross-domain communication or may have very restrictive firewall configurations that do not allow communication to “unknown” hosts. If you are encountering a problem with license verification, please let us know.

Always load SlideDeck JavaScript/CSS on every page?

By default we load the basic libraries for SlideDeck on every page of your site. We do this because SlideDeck can be deployed in many different ways, some of which we cannot predict, so we err on the side of caution to give you the greatest flexibility of deployment.

SlideDeck 2 is intelligent enough to detect when a SlideDeck is loaded as a shortcode embed in a Post, Page or Custom Post Type entry or with the SlideDeck 2 Widget. If you are only embedding SlideDecks via these methods, you can probably turn this option off. If you are embedding SlideDecks in your theme directly however, you will probably want to leave this option on as WordPress does not provide the means to know early enough in the rendering of a page that a SlideDeck is being rendered via your theme, so we cannot queue up the assets for load.

Disable wpautop() function?

WordPress has a great feature called wpautop() which attempts to read all the content in your post and convert any line breaks automatically into semantic, well-formatted HTML <p> tags where it thinks appropriate. Sometimes, this “magic” functionality can cause some odd errors in the display of your SlideDeck content though, so if you’re seeing odd spacing in your SlideDeck where you don’t think you should, try turning this option on.

Don’t enqueue the jquery.mousewheel.js library (if you have your own solution)

SlideDecks can use your mousewheel to navigate between slides if you have that navigation option enabled. We load a JavaScript library that  provides this sort of interaction capability, but we understand that you may already be loading a similar solution. If you are already loading a jQuery mousewheel plugin or you do not have mousewheel navigation enabled on any of your SlideDecks, feel free to turn this option on.

Don’t enqueue the jquery.easing.1.3.js library (if you have your own solution)

By default jQuery doesn’t come with very many easing options, so we load a jQuery plugin that provides the easing options we offer in the SlideDeck 2 Playback Options Panel. If you are only using the “Swing” easing option (the default) or are loading a compatible jQuery easing library already, feel free to turn this option on. Please note that not all jQuery easing plugins will name their easings the same, so check to see that your easing plugin naming matches the names found in our easing plugin or a JavaScript error may occur and break your SlideDecks.

Disable the ability to Add New and Edit SlideDecks for non Admins

We understand that you may not want everyone who has the ability to write posts also have the ability to make and edit SlideDecks. Turn this option on to make sure that only Admin users can actually create or edit SlideDecks.

Include the “iframe=1” attribute in all new shortcode embeds by default

If you have a very custom theme or a specialized plugin that is causing too many conflicts with the way that SlideDecks should render, you can easily add the iframe=1 option to your SlideDeck shortcode to ensure that it is loaded isolated in an iframe. If you find you want this to happen for all SlideDecks you create, just turn this option on and any new SlideDeck embeds you place will have the iframe=1 option automatically appended to the shortcode. Please note that this will not modify any existing shortcode embeds you have already placed.

Opt-in to make SlideDeck better with anonymous usage statistics

In order to make SlideDeck 2 better we offer you the option to opt-in to send us anonymous usage statistics. As the option says, these statistics are completely anonymous and you will not be personally identified by them. We use these statistics to analyze which features are being used the most often by our customers, what new features would be useful to add in or develop further or which areas need improvement.

Twitter user to tweet via for overlays

The overlay feature allows your visitors to share your SlideDecks via Twitter and Facebook. You can specify the default Twitter user your overlays will tweet “via”
