SlideDeck 3 uses an annual licensing structure. When that license expires at the end of the year, you need to renew it in order to continue experiencing the full benefits of the plugin. Read the FAQs below for more information on SlideDeck 3’s licensing and renewals system.
Why does my license expire? Can I just pay a one-time fee?
SlideDeck 3 is a plugin built specifically for WordPress, which is a continuously evolving and open platform – this is great, because it means that anyone can contribute a plugin or theme that all WordPress users can enjoy. Unfortunately, sometimes other developers’ plugins and themes – and even occasionally updates released for WordPress itself – can interfere with how SlideDeck 3 works. As a result, we dedicate a significant amount of our internal resources towards providing ongoing support for SlideDeck3 users, as well as maintaining the plugin to ensure it stays in tip-top shape. We love to do stuff like feed our developers, pay rent, etc., so we charge an annual license fee to fund our ability to offer this support and release plugin updates.
It’s also a nice motivator for us to always be improving SlideDeck, and listening to your feedback in order to ensure it continues to meet your needs. Win-win!
If you’d prefer to just pay a one-time fee, we offer a SlideDeck 3 Lifetime license, which offers all the functionality of the Developer license, but at a one-time fee of $299.
Will my SlideDecks stop working once my license expires?
Absolutely not! Again – we will never touch your SlideDecks when your license expires.
What happens when my license expires?
You’ll get a couple of timely reminders from us shortly before your license expires, with an invitation to renew. If you decide not to renew with us, a few things will happen:
- You’ll need to renew your license before you can post any new support tickets with our team
- You’ll no longer receive any updates to the plugin
- Actually, that’s it!
Again, you won’t lose any SlideDecks you’ve created, or the ability to create new SlideDecks.
Why should I renew my license, then?
Well for one, WordPress is constantly being updated, and sometimes those updates can interfere with or even completely disrupt how SlideDeck works. In order to keep the plugin fully functional, you should install the updates we release for SlideDeck on a regular basis. Updates are only available to users with a current license.
In addition, if you have questions about how to create certain types of sliders with SlideDeck, wouldn’t it be nice to speak to a real human being, instead of having to comb through documentation alone…?
What do I get when I renew?
Another year of sweet new updates and features, as well as peace of mind that if something’s not working right, all you need to do is post a ticket, and the very same Web samurai who built the plugin will personally answer your question!
How long does my license last?
1 year from the time of purchase. Note that if you decide to upgrade to a higher tier of SlideDeck 2 at any time during that year, your expiration date will jump forward to 1 year from the date of your upgrade!
Can I resell my Developer license, or use it in my clients’ sites?
Technically, sure! SlideDeck 3 uses the GPL license (see our terms & conditions for more on this), so you can do whatever you like with the code. [Huge caveat alert]
As the holder of the license, if you distribute your license key, you are responsible for any support requests and updates that stem from your customers – so unless you have time to offer super-duper support and maintenance skills in addition to selling your products, it’ll likely be difficult to scale such an arrangement.
But, there is an alternative! Consider packaging our free trial, SlideDeck 2 Lite, with your theme or plugin, and sign up with our awesome affilate program. It’s free to join, and you can earn 25% or more on each sale of SlideDeck that you refer to us! Apply here.
How do I renew my license?
Easy! You can re-up with us in a couple ways:
- From SlideDeck site – renew here
- Upgrade from inside your plugin – we’ll automatically extend your renewal date for one year!
- From inside the plugin. Look for the “Renew Now” button up top!
From each of these locations, you’ll be taken to our checkout page to purchase your renewal. If you own multiple separate licenses – for instance, if you purchased two separate SlideDeck 2 Personal licenses – you should automatically be set up to purchase a renewal for the license associated with either the account you used to log in, or the installation from which you arrived. If we’re not able to detect your license key, you’ll be able to specify which license you want to renew via a simple dropdown menu.
How much does it cost to renew?
Currently, it’s 75% of the original purchase price for SlideDeck 2 Personal users, and 50% of the original price for SlideDeck 2 Professional & Developer users.
